Man Charged After Courthouse Shooting That Injured Woman, Two Law Enforcement Officers in Wilson
WILSON, N.C. โ A 21-year-old Wilson man has been charged following a shooting at the Wilson County Courthouse that left a woman and two law enforcement officers injured this morning.
According to the Wilson County Detention Center, Abdul Karim Mustafa, 21, of Wilson, was arrested by the Wilson County Sheriffโs Office on July 13, 2026, and booked into the detention center at approximately 3:46 p.m.
Mustafa has been charged with:
* Attempted Murder
* Going Armed to the Terror of the People
* Discharging a Firearm Within the City
* Damage to Real Property
Authorities allege Mustafa opened fire at the Wilson County Courthouse at approximately 10:40 a.m., striking a woman identified as Latoya Andrea Lucas, 19, on the court house steps and later after he fled, two law enforcement officers were injured by gunfire, however there are no charges at this time for those injuries.
Law enforcement officials said todayโs shooting was allegedly carried out in retaliation for the June 23rd homicide of a 16-year-old on Spruce Street in Wilson.
On June 29, Wilson Police arrested Lucas on one count of Felony Obstructing Justice and one count of Felony Accessory After the Fact. She was released after receiving a $10,000 secured bond.
Those charges stemmed from the investigation into the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old on Spruce Street on June 23. Investigators later charged a 17-year-old juvenile with one count of open murder in that case.
Police have said the victim and the juvenile suspect in that case knew each other and that the homicide appeared to be an isolated incident.
The investigation into todayโs courthouse shooting remains ongoing, and additional details are expected to be released as they become available.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
